Countdown is on to Weymouth’s Bonfire Night Event
The countdown is on, with just over a week to go until Weymouth Town Council’s annual bonfire night and firework display gets underway on Thursday 5th November.
With a drone display, beach bonfire, and fireworks all happening on November 5th, Weymouth seafront is the place to be. Here is all you need to know to help you make the most of your evening.
Key timings
5pm to 9.30pm Funfair rides at the Jubilee Clock.
From 5pm A range of food and drink traders will be set up along the promenade serving up a range of tasty treats until the firework display ends. Visit the Council’s website for a full list of traders. Charity stalls also set up along the promenade include Margaret Green Charity, Weldmar Hospicecare, Pineapple Project, Weymouth and Portland Lions Club, the RNLI, along with Weymouth Sea Life.
7.15pm New for this year, a drone display featuring some of your favourite Weymouth sights recreated in lights.
7.40pm Feel the warmth of the glow as the traditional beach bonfire is lit.
8pm The fantastic firework display over the bay begins. The fireworks will be fired from a boat out in the bay, visible from various points along the seafront.

Safety Advice
The safest way to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night is to attend an organised event, so come to the seafront on November 5th and make an evening of it. A reminder that bonfires are not permitted on council-owned land which includes its parks and gardens.
Weymouth Town Council will be providing orange sparkler buckets at beach access points between the Pavilion and Bond Street. You are welcome to enjoy sparklers at the event but used sparklers must be disposed of in the buckets to help keep the event safe for everyone and to prevent litter.
Getting to and from the event
Bonfire Night is always popular, and the beach and town are expected to be busy so the advice is to arrive early and, where possible, walk, cycle, use public transport, or lift share as car parks will be busy. Avoid peak times of exiting the car parks by staying in town and visiting the many eateries Weymouth has to offer.
A reminder that part of Dorchester Road will be closed on bonfire night while SGN carry out essential work to replace a gas main, so plan your route in advance to limit the impact on your journey.
First Bus will be providing extra services on routes 1, 2, and 10 and you can find the timetables for the bus services listed here.
Following the end of the firework display, members of the public are advised to take care when crossing the Esplanade to exit the event and always use the designated crossing points and underpass.
Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr David Harris, said: “Weymouth’s spectacular annual bonfire night is almost here, and we can’t wait to see the seafront come alive with colour, light and excitement!
“From 5pm, visitors can enjoy delicious food and drink from a fantastic range of traders before an exciting new drone display takes to the skies at 7.15pm. The beach bonfire will then be lit at 7.40pm, followed by a dazzling firework finale over the bay at 8pm.
“Come along, soak up the atmosphere and make a memorable evening of it. The town will be busy, so please consider walking, cycling or using public transport to help everyone have a smooth and safe journey.”
