Finale of Summer Fireworks in Weymouth This Bank Holiday Monday
Weymouth Town Council’s summer season of fireworks conclude on Monday 31st August, taking place over the bay at 9.30pm.
Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr David Harris, said: “Currently, the final firework display of the summer is planned to go ahead on Monday 31st August and I’m looking forward to seeing people for the countdown.
“I would also like to extend a thank you to everyone attending these events for taking the time to plan your journeys ahead. Your efforts are making a real difference, helping everyone travel to and from the town centre more easily to enjoy these evenings — please keep planning ahead and allow extra time for your journey.”
Weymouth Concert Brass play from 7pm at the charity stall area on the promenade. At 8.30pm there will be a Punch and Judy show on Weymouth Beach, along with funfair rides on the beach and at the Jubilee Clock. Weymouth and Portland Lions Club, The RNLI Lifeboat Fundraising Team and the Pineapple Project will also be in the charity stall area raising awareness about their work.
Where can I view the fireworks?
The fireworks are fired from a boat moored out in the bay and can be viewed from anywhere along Weymouth’s long stretch of seafront, from the Nothe all the way over to Overcombe and Bowleaze.
Getting here
Wherever possible, people are being encouraged to leave their cars at home and walk, cycle or use public transport when getting to and from the displays.
Parking
As on previous summer firework nights only, access to both the Pavilion Forecourt and the Pavilion Car Park behind the theatre will be closed between 6pm and 10pm to help ease congestion in this area.
Weymouth Town Council is working with Dorset Council to trial this approach which will be reviewed at the end of the season.
Signs will be in place advising motorists about the closure of these two car parks. All other town centre car parks are open as usual, and all Dorset Council operated car parks are free after 6pm.
Please consider car sharing where possible.
Public Transport
There are a number of buses serving different communities in Weymouth and surrounding areas that bring passengers right to the beachfront. The number 1 (to Portland), the number 2 (Littlemoor and the Park and Ride), and the number 4 (to Preston via Overcombe) will have an extra double decker late-service running to cater for visitors to the fireworks. Children and young people aged 5 to 15 are also able to travel for free on buses during August as part of the governments Great British Summer Savings scheme.
Cycling
Consider using the Beryl Bike rental scheme – a sustainable way to travel to and from the event.
