Grants Awarded for Good Causes at Finance and Governance Committee

Thousands of pounds of funding will be shared between several organisations who applied for a grant to Weymouth Town Council’s Finance and Government Committee.

At the committee meeting held on Wednesday 5th November, the successful applications included:

Waterside Weymouth Community Forum, £5,000 for Operation Youth Christmas. This intergenerational community project will provide Christmas support for vulnerable residents in the Park District and the wider Weymouth community. The money will go towards Christmas presents and treat food bags for children, young people in care, and families experiencing poverty, a community Christmas dinner for 150+ people on December 23rd for those who might otherwise spend the day alone.

Weymouth Drama Club, £1,000 towards the cost of refurbishing the main door of the Harbour Theatre in Hope Street to make the venue more welcoming to audiences.

Weymouth South Scout Group, £5,000 towards some fire safety measures at the Rylands Lane scout hut including a fire-proof hatch between the kitchen and main hall and fire doors throughout the building.

Two Climate and Ecological Emergency grants were also awarded including £1,000 to the Friends of Castle Cove Beach Charity to carry out sea water testing at the cove in the winter months.

£2,500 was also awarded to the Wyke Regis Horticultural Society. The money will be put towards insulating their office to encourage more people to use the space and get the community involved with horticulture.

The closing date for the next round of grant applications of £500 and over is on Wednesday 25th February 2026. These will be decided at the March meeting of Finance and Governance Committee.
