Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens Win an Award
The Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens have won Chesil Radio’s ‘Pay it Forward Award’ for their hard work and contribution to the local community.
Chesil Radio is a non-profit, volunteer run, online radio station serving the South & South West. The ethos behind the ‘Pay It Forward Award’ is to recognise the hard work that people do with little or no recognition for.
Nikki Latham, Volunteer Station Controller for Chesil Radio, explains, “I have always said if I do a good thing then I ask for them to do a good turn for someone else, it might be helping just to put a smile on someone’s face, simple as that.”
The Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens received the award for their efforts in trying to improve the park for everyone in the local community and visitors to the town.
Nikki comments, “I went along to their AGM last year to hear about all the things they are trying to achieve, and when it came to making the decision for this month it was easy to do.”
Sue Hogben, Secretary of the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens, adds, “The Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens were totally surprised but highly delighted to be presented with this award. We work hard to help make a great community space and it’s great to be recognised.’
Mayor of Weymouth Town Council, Graham Winter, said, “We are so proud of the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens, this a fantastic achievement and very well deserved.”
“They are a small group of very hard-working individuals that not only contribute to the local community but are also assisting in the application of a lottery bid to improve the park and gardens. I wish them the very best of luck.”
Weymouth Town Council’s Parks Department, together with the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens, are currently preparing a Stage 2 lottery bid to secure 1.3 million pounds to restore and improve the park and gardens. The plans include the installation of new play equipment, water play, sports facilities, sensory garden, toilets, upgraded pathways and much more.
The lottery bid will be submitted in December this year and the decision will be announced in June 2020. To find out more about the project or how you can join the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens, please click here.
