Food stall trial and community grants to be decided
Trialling a food truck to expand the popular Bike Night events on the seafront will be considered by councillors at Weymouth Town Council’s Finance & Governance Committee next Wednesday 1st February.
If councillors approve the item, a caterer will be sourced in time for the first meet of the year which takes place on Thursday April 6th. The event has taken place for a number of years and Weymouth Town Council have worked alongside local motorbike and classic car enthusiasts to operate a charity focused “Bike and Classic Car night” along Weymouth Promenade.
Councillors will also be discussing a range of grants to benefit community groups in Weymouth. Applications include Weymouth East Group, Nothe Fort and The Nest. Weymouth East Scout Group have requested £3,000 to buy and install new kitchen equipment for their scout hall located in Preston.
Nothe Fort have requested £1,000 of funding to go towards a new project called “Young People Takeover Nothe Fort,” to make the visitor attraction appealing and relevant for young people.
The Nest run a community café in Westham and charge a reduced amount for food and drink to those registered with the organisation. They have requested £3,000 to ensure those in need can access hot food and drinks.
Cllr David Gray, Chair of Finance & Governance, said: “We are always keen to hear from local organisations who have a great idea to help different communities in Weymouth.
“If you need some financial support to make your idea happen, visit the grants section on our website to download an application form and apply for funding to help your community. Visit https://weymouthtowncouncil.gov.uk/grants-available-for-local-organisations/ for all the details, as we have a range of grants available.”
The full agenda for Finance & Governance Committee is available on the website.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting which is held in the Council Chamber at 7pm on Wednesday 1st February. Refreshments will be available from 6:45pm.
