Community groups invited to last networking event of 2024

Weymouth Town Council is inviting community and voluntary groups to come along to the last in the series of community networking events being held in 2024.

The topic for this event is on local grants and how to apply for them and takes place on Tuesday 22nd October, 10.15am to 1pm at the Council Offices on Commercial Road.

The event features guest speaker Ellie Maguire from Dorset Community Foundation which is a local funder that prioritises small, grassroots community groups. Ellie will share her knowledge on successful grant applications, what funders like to know and monitoring results and outcomes to secure further funding in the future.

They run a number of funding programmes that have various themes and priorities. Ellie will be particularly covering the Neighbourhood Fund, which opens in November. This has broad interests so suits most community groups.

Ellie said: “We run a number of funding programmes that have various themes and priorities. At the networking event, I will be particularly covering the Neighbourhood Fund, which opens in November. This has broad interests so suits most community groups.”

The event schedule is below:

10.15am to 11am – tea/coffee, networking

11am to 11.45am – local grants and how to apply, with guest speaker Ellie Maguire from Dorset Community Foundation

11.45am – 12pm Q&A

12pm – 1pm Networking and light lunch.

Charlotte Emery, Community Development Officer at Weymouth Town Council, added: “Our networking events have been very successful this year and very well attended, and feedback from participants has been very positive. Attendees have learnt so much from our speakers on topics including social media and marketing, volunteer recruitment and retention, and partnership working and sharing resources. The networking opportunities over lunch have proved invaluable for making new contacts, finding like-minded organisations and building partnership working. I am now planning next year’s events, so if you have a theme you would like explored at a future community networking event I would love to hear from you.”
