Weymouth Town Council to Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth
Weymouth Town Council are set to fly a flag for the Commonwealth on Monday 9th March at 10.30am.
The ceremony will be held at the Council’s Commercial Road offices and will be led by the Mayor of Weymouth Town Council, Cllr Graham Winter.
The flag raising will be attended by councillors and is open to members of the public.
Public gatherings to raise the Commonwealth flag on Commonwealth Day have become well established as an imaginative annual demonstration of Commonwealth connection. They provide an opportunity for people of all walks of life to join their local community to celebrate Commonwealth Day in association with fellow citizens throughout the worldwide family.
This unique initiative will see over 850 other Commonwealth Flags raised in 53 member states of the Commonwealth. The theme for 2020 is ‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming’.
A specially written Commonwealth Affirmation will be read out at each ceremony before the raising of the Commonwealth Flag.
