Time is running out to comment on Community Governance Review for Weymouth
Not had your say on the Community Governance Review (CGR) for Weymouth? Time is running out as the consultation closes on Monday 17th April.
It’s important because this is your chance to join the conversation on deciding Weymouth’s future boundaries, wards, and councillor numbers.
This is a Dorset Council consultation which runs until Monday 17th April. It proposes Weymouth Town Council goes from 29 councillors to 24 to represent residents across the town. Weymouth Town Council’s full response can be viewed online at Weymouth Town Council CGR Proposals where you can also complete a short form to let Dorset Council know if you agree with this response.
Cllr Luke Wakeling said: “Weymouth Town Council carefully considered the proposals published by Dorset Council, and in drafting our own detailed response, we have suggested improvements that are fairer to all and take account of the changes to the town over the last 50 years.
“And as there is a short time to go before the consultation closes, it’s important that local people, and other interested parties, have their say on the proposed changes. If you support Weymouth Town Council’s suggestions, please complete our short form to let Dorset Council know your view. Everyone’s opinion matters so make sure you have your say, whatever that is.”
What is a Community Governance Review?
A Community Governance Review is a legal process where a council consults with those living in the area, and other interested parties, on the most suitable ways of representing the people in the parishes identified in the review, and is required to take into account the size, population and boundaries of a local community or parish, and are reflective of the interests of the community in that area.
What happens next?
After the Dorset Council consultation closes on April 17th, the final recommendations will be presented to their Full Council meeting on 11th May. If agreed, the changes will take effect from 1st April 2024.
