Round-up of decisions from Environment and Services Committee

The first meeting of 2025 of Weymouth Town Council’s Environment and Services Committee took place on Wednesday 29th January, where Councillors agreed the following decisions.

A new speed indicator device is to be deployed in Littlemoor near Meadow View Avenue which was requested by the Big4Littlemoor Committee, who are also funding the device. This means the existing SID in Littlemoor will be able to be redeployed for use in Upwey.

Councillors also agreed to explore joint working opportunities with the Weymouth Business Improvement District (BID) for Christmas festivities in the town centre over the next three years. Any decisions involving Christmas tree provision in the town centre, for example, would be brought back to a future committee meeting to consider.

They also reviewed the opening times of the public toilet facilities which the town council is responsible for and agreed to continue with the same opening and closing times as last year. The staggered opening times have worked well and staff from the cleansing team were thanked by Cllr Matt Bell for all the work they do. Opening times can be viewed here.

A refreshed Cemetery Management Policy was agreed up to 2029 setting out how the Council manages the town’s cemeteries, including a project to make the records available online, where the living cemetery areas are, and improved signage to allow people to find graves more easily.

Cllr Matt Bell, Chair of Environment and Services Committee, said: “Our first meeting of the year saw us agree to work more closely with the Weymouth Business Improvement District on ideas to celebrate Christmas in our town, to agreeing a new location for a speed indicator device in Littlemoor. Our meetings are open to the public to attend or view online, so please get involved with local decision-making.”
