Round-up of announcements and decisions from February’s Full Council

From agreeing funding for two new electric vehicles, to a message of good luck to Radio 1 Presenter Greg James who starts his cycle challenge for Comic Relief in Weymouth next month, here’s a round-up from Full Council on Wednesday 25th February.  

During the Mayor of Weymouth’s announcements, Cllr Caroline Nickinson, said: “We are thrilled that Radio 1‘s Breakfast Presenter Greg James is starting his epic cycling challenge in Weymouth on Friday 13th March.  

“I would like to send a personal message to Greg to wish him luck ahead of the 1,000km ride to Edinburgh, all in aid of Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day.  

“Greg has family connections in Weymouth, and I’m sure he will receive a warm Weymouth welcome as he sets off on his tandem on the 13th

The Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Caroline Nickinson, sends a good luck message to Greg James ahead of his challenge.

The Mayor also highlighted around 80 tickets have already been sold for the fundraising disco which takes place on April 10th in aid of her chosen charity, Weldmar Hospicecare. The remaining tickets can be purchased from the charity’s website

Other items on the packed agenda included: 

Interim Internal Auditor Report – Councillors voted unanimously that Full Council formally notes the completion of the interim audit. 

Risk Management and Internal Controls – Councillors voted unanimously in favour that Full Council approve the Corporate Risk Register. 

Asset Register – Councillors voted unanimously in favour that Full Council approve the asset register (Appendix C). 

Annual Review of Insurance – Councillors voted unanimously in favour that Full Council approves the current insurance policies and arrangements are continued for 2026/27. 

Dorset Council and Town Councils Statement of Reasonable Expectations (SoRE). Councillors voted unanimously in favour that Full Council agree to support the draft SoRE and any comments to be taken to the Dorset Association of Parish and Town Council’s Annual General meeting AGM in March. 

Towns of Culture Legacy – Councillors voted unanimously in favour that Full Council enter into a Culture, Heritage, and Arts partnership with Portland Town Council and Chickerell Town Council. They also agreed to Weymouth Town Council being part of a joint bid with Portland Town Council and Chickerell Town Council for the National Towns of Culture 2028. Should Chickerell Town Council decide not to be a part of a joint bid, the bid would go ahead with Portland Town Council. 

Request to spend money on new electric vehicles for the Council’s fleet – Councillors unanimously agree to release £121,290.50 from the Vehicle Procurement Reserve. The money will be used to buy two new electric vehicles and to install a double electric vehicle charge point at Tumbledown. 

Renewal of the Council’s Tree Management Policy – Councillors voted unanimously in favour that Full Council approve and adopt the draft Tree Management Policy 2026 – 2030, which replaces replace the existing policy. 

Sealing of Lease for land at Sandsfoot Gardens – Councillors voted unanimously in favour that Full Council agree to the sealing of the lease for the land at Sandsfoot Gardens. 

Sealing of Deed of Assignment – Councillors voted unanimously in favour that Full Council approves for the Deed of Assignment to be sealed in the Confidential Appendix M.
