New Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Weymouth elected

Cllr Ann Weaving has been elected as the new Mayor of Weymouth at the annual council meeting (Wednesday 11th May), with Cllr Tia Roos appointed as Deputy Mayor.

Outgoing Mayor Cllr Colin Huckle was thanked for all his work in the role over the previous year by the incoming Mayor. Through the Mayor’s Christmas Fund, supported by Weymouth and Portland Lions Club, £700 was given out to local community and voluntary groups during Colin’s time as Mayor. He thanked council staff, councillors, and his chaplain Rev. Deacon Geoffrey Carey for their support over the past 12 months.

New Mayor Ann, who lives in Littlemoor, moved to the area from Woolwich 27 years ago after falling in love with Weymouth. She said: “I’m delighted to be welcomed as the new Mayor of Weymouth, having served as the Deputy over the previous year. It’s going to be a busy time, and I am really looking forward to meeting lots more people who live, work, and visit Weymouth, as well as attending a diverse range of community and civic events.”

Both Colin and Ann will be at the Mayor’s Community Picnic this Sunday 15th May, at Lodmoor Country Park. For full details visit the website

Several other elections took place on the night. Cllr David Harris was re-elected as Council Leader, with Cllr Kate Wheller elected as Deputy Leader.
