Great British Spring Clean Comes to Weymouth
A litter pick will take place on Weymouth Beach on Friday 13th March, 10am to 12pm, as part of a national environmental campaign.
Charity Keep Britain Tidy is behind the Great British Spring Clean which takes place between the 13th and 29th March. The charity’s website says that ‘since 2016, an army of millions of amazing Litter Heroes has shown they love where they live by pledging to pick more than 4.5 million bags of litter’.
Local environmental conservation group Weymouth and Portland Marine Litter Project are joining forces with Weymouth Town Council to host the litter pick on Weymouth Beach, and volunteers are invited to join them.
People are encouraged to meet at 10am in front of beach office on Weymouth’s seafront, there is no need to book, and all the equipment will be provided.
Dave Taylor, from Weymouth and Portland Marine Litter Project, said: “We love the Great British Spring Clean as it coincides with the start of the season with all the visitor attractions busy preparing for summer, so it gives us a chance to come together as a community and show some pride in the town we call home.”
Cllr Matt Bell, Chair of Weymouth Town Council’s Environment and Services Committee, added: “We’re immensely proud of Weymouth’s world-famous beach, and everyone who takes the time to keep it clean for all to enjoy. Groups like Weymouth and Portland Marine Litter Project do so much for Weymouth and surrounding areas, so we are looking forward to joining forces for the Great British Spring Clean as we love where we live. If you are free on the morning of the 13th and would like to join in, we would love to see you there and let’s hope the sun is shining to aid our efforts.”
