Grants given to local community groups to commemorate the D-Day 80th anniversary
From a 1940s-themed party to an afternoon tea event, Weymouth Town Council has awarded grants to local community groups and organisations to put on D-Day 80 commemorative activities.
The grants will bring communities together on this poignant day, benefiting several groups, including:
- Weymouth Brownies, who are organising a 1940s-style party for the anniversary.
- Holy Trinity Church are hosting a D-Day themed quiz. For more information and booking details, click here.
- St Nicholas Church are hosting an afternoon tea event on Saturday, June 8th, at 681 Dorchester Road, DT3 5DN.
- Parish of Wyke Regis, All Saints with St Edmund, are organising ‘An Evening To Remember’ on Thursday, June 6th. For more information on this event click here.
- St Laurence Church, Upwey, holding a ‘Celebration of D-Day’ in the church car park on Sunday 9th June, 12pm-4.30pm.
Cllr Jon Orrell, Mayor of Weymouth said: “I am so pleased that these local groups are putting on a variety of events to bring our communities together to honour and remember the significance of D-Day here in Weymouth.
“These events will complement the programme of activities the Council has organised as we commemorate this pivotal moment in history.”
