CANCELLED Get involved in Tour of Britain art project this Saturday!
Following the cancellation of stage seven of The Tour Of Britain as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, we can confirm that the art installation project due to take place at Tumbledown tomorrow (Saturday 10th September) has been cancelled.
There’s still time to take part in a special one-off art project taking place in Weymouth on Saturday 10th September.
At Tumbledown in Southill, Weymouth Town Council are asking local residents to attend from 10am until 12pm to help become the moving parts of a bicycle design! The event has been organised to mark the arrival of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain cycle race as riders travel through the area.
Around 100 people who are a short walk or cycle ride away from Tumbledown are needed to become the moving parts of a bicycle design with the word W-E-Y-M-O-U-T-H underneath. This will take place in one of the fields at Tumbledown where each person will hold up a large piece of card and be guided on when to move to help make the bicycle appear to be moving. The cards will be red, white and blue in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year.
Cllr Kate Wheller, who is helping with preparations for Saturday’s event, said: “We need plenty of local people to turn up and be the moving parts of this one-off community art project on Saturday. So, if you’re free then please join in and help us put this area of Weymouth on the map or help to spread the word.
“The AJ Bell Tour of Britain is broadcast to viewers around the world so it would be amazing if this stage which passes through Weymouth ended up being televised.”
The Tour of Britain is televised live on ITV4 in the UK and around the world by Eurosport and the Global Cycling Network.
To get involved, just turn up at Tumbledown, Radipole Lane, Southill at the entrance opposite Grafton Avenue from 10am this Saturday! Please note that due to the necessary road closures for the race and the lack of on-site parking, volunteers should walk or cycle to this event.
Please ensure you have weather-appropriate clothing and suitable footwear.
As well as the art project there will also be other activities taking place on site including building bug house hotels and pebble painting.
Further details about the Tour of Britain as it passes through Dorset are available online.
