Events to brighten your November
November is fast approaching and there are several events happening in Weymouth, the first of which is at Tumbledown during the school holidays next week.
Autumn fun at Tumbledown takes place next Friday 1st November, 10am to 1pm at the former farm on Radipole Lane which Weymouth Town Council is transforming into a community asset.
It’s a free event for all the family and there will be autumn-themed activities for the kids to enjoy including pumpkin carving, along with other games, arts and crafts. Refreshments will also be available including mulled apple juice and cakes.
If you haven’t been to Tumbledown before it’s a fantastic place to reconnect with nature and can be found on Radipole Lane, Weymouth DT4 9RU. Some parking is available but please consider walking or cycling to the event.
Bonfire night is nearly here! Weymouth Town Council’s fantastic firework finale of 2024 will light up the sky on Tuesday 5th November. As well as the stalls along the promenade from 5pm, the beach bonfire will be lit at 7.40pm, and the fireworks start at 8pm. Make sure you get there early to find your favourite viewing spot and enjoy a great night out in Weymouth in the process. For full details, visit the website.
Remembrance Sunday is always well attended in Weymouth due to the town’s rich military history. There will be a service by the Cenotaph opposite the Prince Regent Hotel. Members of the public are invited to attend together with representatives from the Armed Forces communities by the Cenotaph at 10.55am on Remembrance Sunday. This will be a time to remember the sacrifices of all those who defend our freedoms and protect our way of life.
At 11am, members of the Nothe Fort Garrison will fire the first cannon from the beach, signalling the start of the two-minute silence, followed by a second at 11.02am to mark the end. There will be a wreath laying service at the Cenotaph followed by a parade along the Esplanade to the US Memorial Service where a short wreath laying ceremony will also take place.
Speaking about Remembrance Sunday, Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Jon Orrell, said: “I will join representatives from our Armed Forces for a service of remembrance at Weymouth Cenotaph on the Esplanade where I will lay a wreath on behalf of the town. The poignant service on Remembrance Sunday is usually very well attended due to Weymouth’s rich military history. Anyone who would like to join us should gather at the Cenotaph in good time for the service at 11am.”

And from November 7th to 11th, the Town Council will be lighting Weymouth’s iconic Jubilee Clock red to shine a light on the work of the Royal British Legion.
Christmas lights switch-on On Saturday 30th November, it’s the Christmas lights switch-on! Weymouth Town Council will once again be providing a Christmas tree in New Bond Street which will be the focal point for the switch-on at 5pm. And the Christmas lights around the town will also be switched on.
We Are Weymouth have put together a host of fun activities to get you in the Christmas spirit throughout the day. Think elf-themed festivities from hat-making and gingerbread decorating to an elf parade.
There’s a main stage of entertainment by the tree throughout the afternoon, including fun and japes with naughty elves, the Panto cast, local schools and dance groups, The Leggomen, street performers, stilt walkers and a host of shops and eateries all joining in the fun; it’s the perfect festive family day out.
Plus, there is also free parking in Dorset Council operated town centre car parks on Saturday 30th November.
