Date Set For Referendum On Weymouth’s Neighbourhood Plan

Dorset Council has set a date for the referendum on Weymouth’s Neighbourhood Plan which will be held on Thursday 11th December.

The Neighbourhood Plan has been developed over several years and covers important themes on jobs, town centre regeneration, more affordable homes for the area, open spaces, family and community life, and measures for responding to climate change in Weymouth.

It has already passed its independent inspection where the examiner said the plan will ‘make a positive contribution to the Development Plan for the area and should enable the attractive character and appearance of Weymouth to be maintained whilst enabling sustainable development to proceed’.

On polling day, residents will be asked the question ‘Do you want Dorset Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Weymouth to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?’

It’s important to read up on the information so residents can come out and vote on the plan, which is available online, along with supporting documents and a leaflet summarising its main points. For full details, visit Weymouth Town Council’s website at Neighbourhood Plan Update – Weymouth Town Council | Weymouth Town Council

The Weymouth Neighbourhood Plan and the supporting material can also be viewed at Dorset Council’s offices, County Hall, Colliton Park, Dorchester and at Weymouth, Littlemoor and Wyke Regis Libraries.

In order to vote in the referendum, you must be on the electoral register. Visit Dorset Council’s website to find out more details on how to register.

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 11th December. Dorset Council will provide details on where to find your polling station to vote in this referendum.
