A round-up from Full Council

If you missed it, here’s a snapshot of some of the decisions made at Full Council this week on Wednesday 16th October.

Community grants – the revised policies have now been published. If your organisation needs help to get an idea off the ground for the benefit of Weymouth residents, you could be eligible for a grant. There are two types of grant available; a small grant for funds up to £500 and a main grant for £500 and above, with the maximum award of £5,000. To find out more, visit our grants page.

Councillor roles – Cllr Thomas Taylor was elected as a Youth Champion. The main roles will involve promoting effective communication and positive working relationships both within the Council and amongst partners, stakeholders, and community groups in relation to youth matters and priorities.

Provide positive support, and on occasions constructive challenge, to the Youth Council and officers in driving forward the Council’s agenda on the issue. Advocate for youth issues at Council meetings and in Council life. Ensure the Council stays informed of emerging local youth issues, and national policy.

Cllr Alex Fuhrmann was elected to sit on the Towns of Culture Project Board. The board meet to plan exciting activities and events for 2025 when Portland and Weymouth take the Dorset Towns of Culture baton from Bridport.

Dorset Council Plan – was received on the day and was delegated to Finance and Governance Committee to consider a response at its next meeting on Wednesday 6th November.

Weymouth’s Neighbourhood Plan – the updated plan will go to the next meeting of Full Council on Wednesday 20th November. If endorsed at this meeting, it will be submitted to Dorset Council who will carry out a public consultation on it in the New Year. More details, including a drop-in session that will be held in advance of the meeting on the 20th, will be published in due course.

Please note: November’s Full Council meeting will be held at the Rembrandt Hotel on Dorchester Road, not at the New Town Hall.
