Meet the team: Jake
Jake is the council’s new Contracts and Procurement Officer.
The main focus of Jake’s role is managing the licenses and leases that the council have in place.
For example, the seasonal food and non-food kiosks on the seafront, and the many cafes around Weymouth.
He said: “A large portion of my job revolves around ensuring that the leases are followed and that any issues that our tenants have are quickly and properly resolved. Alongside that I also help to procure and commission services in line with the council’s different policies, working within the legal requirements that must be adhered to. I also help to increase the council’s commercial and income opportunities.
“One of the projects I’m working on at the moment is looking into a future use for part of the beach operations building, near Kings Statue. It’s currently vacant so there’s a survey open to see what ideas come forward for its future use. It closes on Friday 7th January, so there’s still time for people to fill it in and have their say.”

Before starting as the Contracts and Procurement Officer, Jake spent five years working as a Seasonal Beach Attendant for Weymouth Town Council, becoming a Senior Beach Attendant in his final year.
“This has made settling into my new role much easier as not only have I met many people within the council already, I also have an understanding of how the council works.”
Jake, who is from Weymouth, was also studying history at Plymouth University while working with the beach team. First as an undergraduate and then as a postgraduate student, graduating this year with a merit in his history masters degree.
“My favourite thing about working for the council is how welcoming everyone has been and how much they have helped me to take the skills I have developed at university and to utilise them in my work. The fact that they have allowed me to develop the role in such a way to suit my skill sets and my abilities has highlighted to me how fortunate I am to work with such a welcoming team,” added Jake.
