This is an extremely varied role which includes managing procurement and contracts, and income generation for the council. Charmaine also oversees project management capabilities across the council, manages the communications and marketing function, and is Clerk to the Planning and Licensing Committee. She can also be required to deputise for the Town Clerk or Deputy Town Clerk, most recently by attending a Holocaust Memorial Day service. (pictured)

“Although we are one of the largest town councils in the UK, we are still a relatively small staff team, which again is fulfilling as everyone knows everyone, and it is a fantastic environment to work in.”

Favourite part about working for the council? Charmaine said: “Working for Weymouth Town Council (WTC) is so diverse, and it is really rewarding working on projects and managing teams within an organisation that benefits the local community and visitors, especially within the town I grew up in.”

Prior to joining the council, Charmaine worked at Bournemouth Borough Council in a variety of roles for 11 years. She also worked a summer season with beach control in Weymouth back in 2007, and studied Tourism Management at Bath Spa University before that.

“I joined WTC in September 2019 as Contracts and Facilities Officer and was appointed as Assistant Town Clerk in August 2021.

“When I was Contracts and Facilities Officer I enjoyed leading on a piece of work which saw our Cleansing Operatives brought in-house. This not only created savings for WTC, it also led to improvements in the way the service is delivered, which benefited the staff as well. The cleaners who keep Weymouth’s public toilets clean are a fantastic bunch who are so devoted to their roles.”
