Weymouth Water Fest to Return for a Third Year
Weymouth Town Council are looking forward to the return of Weymouth Water Fest, which is now in its third year. The free event takes place on Weymouth Beach, in front of the Beach Office, from 10am – 3pm on Saturday 12th September. Residents of all ages are invited to come along to try out different water sports and learn skills to increase confidence in and around the water.
There will be a variety of activities for people to try out, and you might even discover a brand-new hobby! Kabincraft Adventures will be providing Gig Rowing taster sessions, and residents can try their hand at Paddleboarding with Adventure 4 All (under 16’s to be accompanied by a parent/guardian). Plus, Revive Wild Sauna will be offering sauna taster sessions (over 16’s only), with sign-up sheets available for anybody interested in taking part.
Local sea swimming group, The Beach Babes will be on hand to lead a sea dip, plus will have an exciting donut activity for people to get involved in.
For anyone looking to increase their confidence and key skills in and around the water, the friendly team from Weymouth Surf Lifesaving Club will be leading sea safety sessions.
Any budding lifeboat crew will have the chance to climb on a display D Class RNLI Lifeboat, and visitors are encouraged to bring along their lifejackets to learn some useful tips in a special RNLI lifejacket clinic.
Weymouth Town Council are also looking forward to welcoming The Beach Access Project team, who will be bringing two brand new beach wheelchairs that can go into the sea for members of the public to have a look at. Plus, there will be the opportunity to have an assisted session to try out the new chairs with Weymouth Surf Lifesaving Club.
Entertainment will be provided by fantastic local acts including Weymouth Community Choir, Lewis Snarey, Eva Grant, Double Keys and Dorset Wrecks, plus Dave from Air 107.2 will be compering throughout the event.
In an exciting addition to this year’s event, Ocean Visions Photography will be on hand with a virtual reality headset, so visitors can see and explore some of our local underwater worlds.
There will also be information stalls from Dorset Coast Forum, Weymouth and Portland Marine Litter Project, and Weymouth Climate Hub. Local handmade jewellery will be available to buy from Dorset Seaside Silver. Plus, if you missed this year’s King’s Dip event, Weymouth Museum will be on the seafront with some of the amazing artwork on display.
Local group Splash Dance will be closing the event in a very special way, and residents are encouraged to bring their swimming gear to join in with a disco dance followed by a mass dip in the sea!
There is no need to pre-book any activities on offer, and residents are encouraged to just turn up and have a go!
