New Mayor and Deputy Mayor Elected
Cllr David Harris has been elected as the new Mayor of Weymouth during the Full Council meeting on Wednesday 13th May, with Cllr Peter Dickenson elected as Deputy Mayor.
Outgoing Mayor Cllr Nickinson was congratulated for all her work in the role over the past year.
Newly elected Mayor Cllr David Harris thanked Councillors for their support and endorsement and announced that his chosen charity for the year ahead will be the British Heart Foundation and he will be supporting some smaller local voluntary organisations.
Other elections at the Full Council meeting included:
Cllr David Civil was elected as Council Leader, with Cllr Alex Fuhrmann as Deputy Leader.
The following councillors were nominated to serve as Committee Chairs and will be confirmed at the next respective committee meetings:
Cllr Ryan Hope – Chair of Environment and Services Committee.
Cllr David Northam – Chair of Finance and Governance Committee.
Cllr Helen Toft – Chair of the HR Committee.
Cllr Jon Orrell – Chair of the Planning & Licensing Advisory Committee.
Cllr Joanna Dickenson will continue in the Armed Forces Covenant Liaison role and Cllr David Northam takes on the Rights of Way Liaison role. Councillors Louie O’Leary, Lee Harmsworth and Kate Wheller were also elected as Youth Council liaison councillors for 2026/2027.
At this meeting, the commemorative Ken Isaacs rose bowl is also presented to an organisation that has stood out for the Mayor during their term of office. Outgoing Mayor Cllr Nickinson chose Weymouth Angling Society Juniors.
Two Honorary Freeman accolades were also awarded on the night to Peter Rendall and Ann Rendall in recognition of their outstanding dedication to the Friends of Weymouth Hospital, local scouts, Holy Trinity Church and many charities and community organisations in Weymouth and Melcombe Regis.
