Weymouth Youth Council
About Us
The Youth Council was set up in 2022 and is aimed at young people in school years 9 to 13 who want to make a difference in Weymouth.
We are supported by Councillors from Weymouth Town Council including Cllr David Harris, Cllr Louie O’Leary, Cllr Lee Harmsworth and Cllr Alex Furhmann.
Our Aims
As members of the Youth Council, we aim to:
- Improve Weymouth for young people
- Represent young people’s views on Council matters
- Ensure Weymouth is a safe place for young people.

Some of Our Achievements
- Designed a digital screen advert encouraging people to take their litter home
- Attended and supported events such as Chesil Youth Pride and the Town Council’s Community Expo
- Visited the Houses of Parliament in November 2025 during Parliament Week and hosted an Instagram takeover for the day
- As part of Parliament Week, we met with local Brownie and Scout groups
- Attended local primary schools to help judge ‘Wacky Wheels’ entries during Walk to School Week
- Set up a Book Exchange in central Weymouth in an old telephone box
Our Meetings
- We meet on the third Friday of each month, from 6pm to 7pm in The Council Chamber, The New Town Hall, Commercial Road, Weymouth.
- We discuss issues affecting young people in Weymouth such as waste and recycling to keeping our beach and public spaces clean and litter free. The need for more spaces for young people to meet up safely, inclusivity- making Weymouth a welcoming place for everyone.
- We have the opportunity to attend Weymouth Town Council meetings every now and then to learn more about its work. Cllrs Louie O’Leary, Kate Wheller and Lee Harmsworth attend our meetings on a regular basis and update us on some of the important issues being discussed.
