Weymouth Town Council Service to Mark Anzac Day

Photo / broadcast opportunity

Members of the public are invited to attend Weymouth Town Council’s annual ANZAC Day Service on Saturday 25th April at the ANZAC Memorial.

A service of remembrance takes place on the seafront opposite the Hotel Prince Regent at 11am, so people are advised to arrive before the start time.

A wreath-laying service will commemorate the thousands of Australian and New Zealand volunteer service personnel who passed through camps and hospitals in Dorset during the First World War. The short service will be carried out by chaplain, Father Scott Anderson.

Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Caroline Nickinson will be in attendance, and said: “Weymouth Town Council’s annual ANZAC Day Service recognises the sacrifices made by personnel of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The service takes place at the dedicated memorial opposite the Prince Regent Hotel, and members of the public are welcome to attend the service on Saturday 25th April, which begins at 11am. I hope to see you there.”

Please note, there will be a temporary road closure in place for the service between Pier Bandstand and Astrid Way. The closure will be in place from 10.30am and will re-open by 11.45am at the latest.

Anyone wishing to observe ANZAC Day around sunrise can meet Cllr Simon Clifford at the memorial at 5.45am on Saturday 25th April.
