Teams Behind the Best Parks in the UK Receive Special Accolade
Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award team announces Weymouth Town Council a ‘Best of the Best’ award winner for 2025.
Weymouth Town Council has scooped a national award from Keep Britain Tidy for an event held at one of the town’s most picturesque green spaces during the summer.
The town council won the Best Love Parks Week Event in the annual Best of the Best Awards announced by the charity on Thursday 20th November.
The national charity’s Best of the Best Awards recognise the unsung heroes behind the success of these beautiful green spaces, with a jury making the tough decision of who meets the criteria for each category.
The Love Nothe Gardens event held on 31st July featured a range of fun activities from family yoga and story time sessions to live music and a hugely popular teddy bear zipwire.
Welcoming the win, Mayor of Weymouth Cllr Caroline Nickinson, who officially opened the Love Nothe Gardens event, said: “This is fantastic news. Well done to all of our teams who came together to organise this fantastic event for the community to enjoy during the school holidays. Despite the thundery forecast that day, the sun came out, and so did the crowds.
“Families and children loved it, so it’s no surprise to see the event gaining national recognition with a Best Love Parks Week Event award. Congratulations to you all, it really is well deserved.”
Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, Paul Todd MBE, added: “Parks and green spaces provide crucial benefits to people, pets and wildlife, including space to exercise, socialise, and improve mental and physical wellbeing – and they continue to play a part in helping us mitigate and adapt to some of the effects of our changing climate.
“It’s only right that we continue to recognise the tireless work by the thousands of parks staff and volunteers to make their parks and green spaces safe and healthy places everyone can benefit from. We’d like to congratulate all of our worthy Best of the Best winners on their achievements.”
