Thank You For Coming To Weymouth Water Fest!
Weymouth Town Council would like to say a big thank you to everyone who participated in Weymouth Water Fest, which returned for a second year on Sunday 7th September.
The free event on the beach was opened by Cllr David Harris, Leader of Weymouth Town Council, and was aimed at Weymouth residents of all ages to increase their water confidence, have a go at some different water sports, and make use of the beautiful natural resource on the town’s doorstep.
The Bluetits sea swim group made a splash at the start of the event with a group swim while Adventure 4 All offered taster sessions in kayaking throughout the day. And fresh from a sea swim or kayak session, people were able to warm up in the sauna on the promenade provided by Revive Wild Sauna.
Weymouth Surf Lifesaving Club ran sea safety sessions to help build up key skills and confidence in and around the water, and there were two beach yoga sessions to help stretch tired muscles and provide a relaxing experience on the beach. An arts and crafts stall run by Artwey saw a number of people get creative by painting scallop shells, and plenty of children were transformed into different characters thanks to the artistic face painters.
Mark from Weymouth’s famous Sandworld attraction showed children and adults how to make the perfect sandcastle, and invited them to create their own masterpieces.
And the event was sound-tracked thanks to music from Weymouth Ukuleleans, Weymouth Community Choir and Dorset Wrecks.
To round off the day, swimmers took to the sea to sing the Hokey-Cokey!
A Weymouth resident said: “Fab couple of hours down Weymouth with Oliver for Water Fest. Thanks Weymouth Town Council for organising. My eight-year-old was in his element and loved the kayaking. We even went back and did a second session.”
