Pond Clearing Work at Sandsfoot Gardens
The pond in the centre of the award winning Sandsfoot Gardens has recently undergone a fantastic transformation, thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers and Weymouth Town Council’s Greenspaces team.
Local resident and a member of the Friends of Sandsfoot Gardens and the Rodwell Trail, Alan Cribb was instrumental in the pond clearing project at Sandsfoot Gardens with our gardener, Jon. Alan even gave his time freely to act as a labourer throughout the day, saying “I’ve never pushed a wheelbarrow so far!”
The pond was professionally emptied and cleaned with the safe removal of all the fish, frogs and newts to a holding tank.
Alan added: “Our first attempt had to be cancelled due to the heat, so we abandoned the project and refilled the pond. Lessons learnt, we started work at 5am with the help of a helpful neighbour who allowed us to use her electrical supply and 13 hours later, in torrential rain, we were finished. Big thanks to Paul from the Council’s Greenspaces team, Jurassic Pond Solutions, gardeners Jon and Max and neighbour, Paula.”
