Weymouth Town Council honours the Samaritans with floral tribute

After weeks of hard work, the annual charity bedding display at Greenhill Gardens has been completed.

Each year, Weymouth Town Council’s gardeners skilfully recreate the logo, crest or symbol to represent a local charitable organisation in a floral tribute, with the eye-catching beds providing a popular attraction for residents and visitors to the town.

This year’s chosen charity are the Samaritans, who have been supporting individuals for over 70 years and to mark the completion of the carpet bedding, representatives from Weymouth Town Council and the Samaritans gathered in the gardens to celebrate.

Cllr Caroline Nickinson, Mayor of Weymouth, said: “The Samaritans have been taking calls and listening to those in need for over 70 years and can be seen as a pillar of our society. Day or night, they are there for people when they need it most and play such an important role here in Weymouth, supporting our community. Weymouth Town Council is honoured to represent the Samaritans in a floral tribute at Greenhill Gardens, and I hope many people will get to pay a visit to see it as it begins to burst with colour over the weeks ahead.”

Vicky Thompson, Weymouth Samaritans Fundraising Director said: “Weymouth Samaritans are delighted to have been chosen as the charity for the Greenhill Gardens flowerbed. It is a great opportunity to raise awareness for our charity as we strive to give emotional support to all our callers. The Samaritans are available 24/7 on freephone number 116123. We are a self-funding branch run entirely by volunteers and need over £50,000 a year to operate and any help would be very much appreciated.
