Notice of cemetery inspection in January

Weymouth Town Council staff will be carrying out memorial inspections in Melcombe Cemetery from the middle of January.

All local burial authorities (Parish, District or other Councils) have a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act to ensure memorials are safe in any public graveyard or cemetery they manage.

This notice is to inform people that inspections will be carried out at Melcombe Cemetery from mid-January for six weeks.

Staff will be testing the memorials for stability. Each memorial is carefully assessed to check for movement and any memorials in a dangerous, unsafe condition may be set into the ground or lain down. The town council will contact grave owners if this is the case.

If residents have any enquiries regarding the cemetery inspections, please email bereavementservices@weymouthtowncouncil.gov.uk
