New Mayor and Deputy Mayor Elected

Cllr Caroline Nickinson has been elected as the new Mayor of Weymouth during the Full Council meeting on Wednesday 15th May, with Cllr Thomas Taylor elected as Deputy Mayor.

Outgoing Mayor Cllr Jon Orrell raised £1,290 at a recent fundraiser for his chosen charity The Lantern Trust and was congratulated for all his work in the role over the past year.

The commemorative Ken Isaacs rose bowl is presented each year to an organisation that has stood out for the Mayor, and Cllr Orrell chose Citizens Advice Central Dorset (Weymouth and Portland) for the valuable role they do in helping residents with various issues.

Newly elected Mayor Cllr Nickinson thanked Councillors for their support and endorsement and announced that Weldmar Hospicecare will be her chosen charity during her term.

Other elections at Full Council included:

Cllr David Harris was elected as Council Leader, with Cllr Kate Wheller as Deputy Leader.

The following councillors were nominated to serve as Committee Chairs and will be confirmed at the next respective committee meetings:

Cllr Matt Bell – Chair of Environment and Services Committee.

Cllr David Civil – Chair of Finance & Governance Committee.

Cllr Louise Bown – Chair of the HR Committee.

Cllr Peter Dickenson – Chair of the Planning & Licensing Advisory Committee.

Cllr Claire Williams – Chair of the Appeals Committee.

Cllr Joanna Dickenson will continue in the Armed Forces Covenant Liaison role, and Cllr Tim Young as Rights of Way Liaison.
