Mayor’s Community Award Winners 2025 Announced
From a local wildlife and bird rescuer to two young litter pickers, Weymouth Town Council has announced the winners of the 2025 Mayor’s Community Awards.
As one of his last public engagements during his term as Mayor, Cllr Jon Orrell presented the winners with certificates and thanked them for the tireless work they do for their communities. This took place during a presentation before the Council’s Full Council meeting on Wednesday 14th May.
The following residents received an award:
Sisters Alice, 8, and Sophia, 10, won an award for their services to the environment through their litter picks in Wyke. They go out in all weathers, without any prompting, which shows real commitment.
Dave Drage For many years, Dave has been a massive face of youth football in and around Weymouth going out of his way to coach kids from all ages. From taking training sessions, going to matches in the morning and afternoon encouraging all the time. Dave is described as ‘a true footballing legend around the area and an absolutely lovely man in his own right.’
Denise Arthur Denise is a wonderful member of her local community. She is always the first person to visit and check on her elderly neighbours. She has strong relationships up and down the road, when emergencies strike, she visits people in hospital and ensures that family members are contacted. Despite the loss of her husband last year, she has not wavered in her consistent support of others.
John Collins, also known as “Danny the Bike Man” has for many years restored bicycles and sold them to generate income for local charities.
Kallum Gethins Kallum received the award in recognition of his dedication to the Weymouth community. He has worked tirelessly to organise events that bring people together and support local causes. His passion and commitment to making a difference makes him highly deserving of this recognition.
Katherine Davis and Christopher Perrett Joint nomination for their work with Weymouth Park Run. Katherine and Christopher work relentlessly on their own time and without financial reward to make Park Run happen every week. Although there are other volunteers that help each week. Kath and Chris are the backbone of Weymouth parkrun. They are a shining example of “community heroes”.
Maggie Irvine Maggie is a long-standing committee member and volunteer at Littlemoor Community Centre as well as the food bank. Maggie also helps out her local neighbours and is always selfless putting others first.
Nicki Quinn Nicki is a local wildlife and bird rescuer. She is the go-to person when there is an animal or bird in need. Nicki dedicates her time to help eliminate suffering and ensure sick or needy creatures have the best possible outcome. She is an amazing, compassionate lady who truly cares for our precious wildlife and needs recognition for her many years of selfless work.
Rosemary Spicer Rosemary has, for the last 23 years, has been running a gentle exercise class for around 30 to 40 retirees on a voluntary basis. She is an inspiration to all she comes into contact with, and those in her weekly class benefit both physically and mentally from her gently stimulating sessions.
