Hundreds gather for Weymouth’s VE Day 80 Beach Concert

Celebrations were in full swing on Saturday 10th May, as Weymouth Beach hosted a free beach concert to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

The concert, opened by the Mayor of Weymouth Cllr Jon Orrell, was part of Weymouth Town Council’s events to celebrate 80 years since the end of World War II in Europe and followed the town’s beacon lighting service which took place on Thursday 8th May.

Crowds gathered on the beach to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment from local artists including Bovington Military Wives Choir, The Decadettes, Asha Zee, Wessex Musical Theatre and Lewis Snarey. The music continued into the evening as Modern Disciples, Milk & Two and That Britpop Band took to the stage, before a performance from headliners The Leggomen to bring the event to a close.
