Countdown is on to the Community Expo

UPDATE: Newly elected Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Caroline Nickinson will be attending the Community Expo!

Weymouth Town Council says there’s something to interest everyone as the return of its Community Expo event draws closer on Saturday 17th May at the Jubilee Clock.

This year’s event coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week, 12th to 18th May, and the theme is community. The Community Expo showcases the work of voluntary and community organisations across Weymouth who can help residents in a number of ways, including their mental health and wellbeing. From the Samaritans to Cycling without Age who provide trishaw rides to people who are less mobile, the full list or organisations confirmed to date is below.

Continuing the community theme, there will also be performances from community choirs at various times throughout the event:

11am to 12pm, performances from the Quangle Wangle Choir, Wacapella, and The Live Wire Choir.

12pm to 12.30pm, Weybay Rockers

12.30pm to 1pm, Weymouth Rock Choir

1.30pm to 2pm, Weymouth Community Choir

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will also be attending with one of their fire appliances parked on the promenade, which should be a draw for younger visitors who are budding firefighters. Classic cars from Weymouth Vehicle Preservation Society will also be on display and the town’s Friends of’ groups who do amazing work in Weymouth’s parks and gardens will also have a stand.

During the day, you can also find out more about the work of Weymouth Town Council’s services and projects in a short report from the Town Clerk. This takes place as part of the Annual Town Assembly at 1pm where residents can ask any questions about the work of the Town Council.

A variety of community groups have signed up already, including:

Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Jon Orrell, said: “Weymouth Town Council’s Community Expo comes to you this Saturday, 17th May on Weymouth’s iconic seafront. If you’re passing the Jubilee Clock, this is your chance to find out more about the work of the Council along with our thriving voluntary and community groups who do so much to help residents in Weymouth. We’ve also got some fantastic community choirs joining us this year, to add to the joyous atmosphere generated at this event. Do come along and stay for a chat.”

There is also the chance to enter the Council’s wartime Dig for Victory-inspired competition. Come along to the Weymouth Town Council stand and pick up some seeds and a pot to grown herbs ranging from rosemary, thyme, chives or mint.

The event runs from 11am to 2pm on Saturday 17th May, with stalls located by the Jubilee Clock.
