Temporary closure of Public Footpath 74, Weymouth

Dorset Council has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as
amended. All pedestrians will be prohibited from proceeding along footpath 74, from grid reference SY 658 767 (point A on the map below) to grid reference SY 665 762 (Point B on the map below) a distance of approximately 860 metres. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 29 January 2024 for a period of 26 weeks, but it may be extended with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport, if necessary.
This closure is required due to the unstable ground below the footpath which is slumping into the
sea below taking the footpath with it.
