New Keep in Touch Projects: Chat2gether and Pen2paper
Refresh, in collaboration with Weymouth Town Council, are launching two exciting, new projects: Chat2gether and Pen2paper – under the wider Keep in Touch scheme. The projects aim to connect those who have been socially isolated due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Chat2gether scheme involves a weekly telephone call between a small group of individuals, offering support and friendly interaction. The groups will be of no more than four people and the calls will last approximately 30 minutes. The scheme is open to everyone and will provide an opportunity to make new connections, particularly as many social events and activities are currently being cancelled. Sign up is completely free of charge and can be done over the phone.
Volunteers to facilitate the telephone calls are also needed. This is a great way of giving something back to the community and can all be done from the comfort of your own home! We’re looking for people who have excellent listening skills and can commit to a 30-minute call on the same day and time each week. Training and support in this role will be provided, all you need is a phone!
All volunteers and participants will be protected using an external telephone system so that no personal telephone numbers need to be exchanged. Calls are charged at a standard rate and are included if you have free minutes.
The new Pen2paper scheme is for individuals who would like to receive a card or letter in the post. This will be offered on a fortnightly basis and participants will have the option to write back if they wish to, though there is no obligation to do so.
This scheme will also be carried out in a safe way, with no exchange of addresses. All letters will come to a central base and be sent from there.
If you would like to receive a phone call, a letter, or be a volunteer on either of these fantastic projects, please get in touch with Rosie on 07902 217942 or email keepintouch.weymouth@gmail.com
