Meet Your Councillor – Ryan Hope

Cllr Ryan Hope

Name: Ryan Hope

Ward you represent: Westham East

Any committee roles?

Chair of Services Committee, Member of Finance & Governance, Member of Full Council

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I’m 31 years old, Father of 2 children and 1 puppy called Rocket who many of my residents will know from our walks. I was first Elected to Weymouth & Portland Borough Council at the age of 20 in 2012 after standing in 2011 and losing by only 3 votes. As well as Weymouth Town council I work full time as a Quality Assurance Lead and also serve on Dorset Council. In my spare time when I’m not with my family I volunteer with a locally based international charity.

What motivated you to become a councillor?

Rather than just complaining, standing up and making our community and town a better place to be & ensuring there was a young voice in local decision making

What do you enjoy most about the role?

Bettering my community and supporting my neighbours.

What’s the most frequent issue you deal with in your ward?

Anti Social Behaviour, (ASB), Housing Support and Dog Fouling.

Do you have any advice for anyone thinking about becoming a councillor?

Being a councillor is a great thing to do. You get to support your community and town. Although there are political groups, we currently (on large) work as 1 group of councillors to come together and figure out what is best for our town.

How can people contact you if they have an issue to raise?

Contact me by visiting Weymouth Town Council’s website for more details.
