CANCELLED – Tour of Britain Art Project

Following the cancellation of stage seven of The Tour Of Britain as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, we can confirm that the art installation project due to take place at Tumbledown tomorrow (Saturday 10th September) has been cancelled.

The Tour of Britain is coming through Southill this Saturday 10th September. Details are below regarding the public art project which will be taking place on Saturday morning at the Top Field, Tumbledown.

Please note: no car parking will be available, please walk or cycle.

WHEN: Saturday 10th September from 10am to 12pm.

WHERE: Tumbledown community space, Radipole Lane, Southill.  Entrance opposite Grafton Avenue, Southill.

WHO: Families in the Southill area of Weymouth are needed to take part in a one-off art project which will take place whilst the Tour of Britain cycle race passes through.

We need around 100 people who are within walking distance or a short cycle ride from Tumbledown in the Southill area.

WHAT: We need people to be part of a design showing the word W-E-Y-M-O-U-T-H and a large bicycle. This will take place on the top field at Tumbledown and each person will hold up a large piece of card to help make the design stand out. The cards will be red, white and blue in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year. All artwork will be supplied.

We want the design to be visible from the air and hopefully filmed by a helicopter flying over the route as it films the race. The Tour of Britain is televised live on ITV4 in the UK and around the world by Eurosport and the Global Cycling Network.

As well as the art project there will also be other activities taking place on site including building bug house hotels, pebble painting and a nature trail.

WHY: Help us put this area of Weymouth on the map and catch the attention of viewers around the world who will watch the race on television and online. It’s also a chance to participate in a community arts project, meet new friends and share this unique occasion.

Need to know: Radipole Lane will need to be kept clear for the race so to help manage numbers on site during the day it’s vital that volunteers either walk or cycle to Tumbledown.

Please also be advised you will need to have weather-appropriate clothing and suitable footwear.
