Tell us a little bit about yourself: (100 words max)
I have served as a Councillor for more than 25 years initially at Epping Forest District and since 2012 in Weymouth, becoming a Weymouth Town Councillor in 2019. My business career was in administration my last post being Office Manager for Epping Forest, a major public open space comprising some 8,000 acres.
I played cricket for many years. My favourite football teams are West Ham and Weymouth.
What motivated you to become a councillor?
I am motivated to try and improve the lives of people in the local community where live.
What do you enjoy most about the role?
Hoping to be satisfied that I have done my best to achieve a satisfactory outcome.
What’s the most frequent issue you deal with in your ward?
Lack of opportunities for our young people to obtain skilled employment and then being able to afford to live locally. This is a national problem which as a Town Council we have little control over although we are able to make those that can make a difference to understand this area needs significant support.
Optional line to add: It’s great that we now have a Youth Council to represent the voices of young people across Weymouth.
Do you have any advice for anyone thinking about becoming a councillor?
Be prepared to devote time and energy to the role for few rewards save knowing that you have done your best.
How can people contact you if they have an issue to raise?
Contact me by visiting Weymouth Town Council’s website for more details.
